Use of military force opposed by members of the president’s party.
President Biden’s first military action sent another round of airstrikes to Syria, reaffirming the decades-long pattern of U.S. leaders using military strength in the Middle East. However, certain members of Congress denounced that pattern and have introduced a new bill proposing to reduce the power of the president to enact military action.
Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia announced the bill as one of its lead sponsors, saying that continued military authorizations “serve no operational purpose, keep us on permanent war footing, and undermine the sovereignty of Iraq. Last week’s airstrikes in Syria show that the Executive Branch, regardless of party, will continue to stretch its war powers.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Congress as they navigate the details of this bill.
- That President Biden and his advisors would seek the Lord’s guidance in utilizing military force.
